Senegal have been crowned champions of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after edging hosts Morocco one–nil after extra time in yesterday’s final in Rabat.
Pape Gueye scored the decisive goal in the 94th minute, following a tightly contested encounter that ended goalless in regulation time.
Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was pivotal, saving a late VAR-awarded penalty taken by Morocco’s Brahim Diaz, as the Teranga Lions withstood sustained pressure to secure the title.
Following the final, the Confederation of African Football announced Senegal as champions, with Morocco finishing runners-up and Nigeria claiming third place.
CAF also awarded Morocco the Fair Play Award, while Senegal captain Sadio Mané was named Player of the Tournament.
Morocco’s Brahim Diaz emerged as top scorer with five goals, and goalkeeper Yassine Bounou received the Best Goalkeeper award, as the 2025 AFCON ended with high drama and standout performances.
