At least seven children have been confirmed dead and 26 others injured following the collapse of part of a school building in Rajasthan, western India.
According to police, the roof and walls of a government-run school caved in during classes today. Senior police officer Nand Kishore informed newsmen that rescue efforts are ongoing at the site.
In a separate incident, a passenger aircraft carrying nearly 50 people has crashed in Russia’s Far East, with no immediate signs of survivors.
Authorities said the Antonov-24, operated by Angara Airlines, vanished from radar around 1pm local time today, while flying from Bla/go/ve/shchensk to the town of Tynda.
A rescue helicopter later located the burning wreckage of the plane on a forested mountain slope, roughly 16 kilometres from Tynda. No survivors have been found, and access to the wreckage has been difficult due to rough terrain.
The Amur region’s civil defence agency says 25 rescue workers and multiple aircraft have been deployed.
