South Africa Passes Budget Bill After Lengthy Deadlock

South Africa’s parliament has passed the Appropriation Bill, after months of political deadlock between the ruling African National Congress and its main coalition partner, the Democratic Alliance.

The lower house approved the crucial legislation yesterday, clearing the final hurdle for the 2025 national budget.

The Appropriation Bill, which outlines spending for government departments and national programmes, had been delayed by coalition disagreements.

According to parliament, the 2.3 trillion Rands budget prioritises debt reduction, social support, job creation, and improvements in health, education, and infrastructure.
