U.S President Threatens Troop Deployment to Baltimore Amid Clash with Governor

US President Donald Trump has threatened to send troops to Baltimore, intensifying a dispute with Maryland Governor Wes Moore.

The president suggested on social media that he could quickly “clean up crime” in the city, citing similar actions in Washington DC, where about 2,000 troops have already been deployed.

The White House has claimed the operation brought “total safety” to the capital, though police figures show violent crime had already been declining, reaching a 30-year low in 2024 and continuing to fall in 2025.

Governor Moore criticised President Trump’s remarks, calling them tone-deaf and dismissive of local realities.

He argued that federal officials have little understanding of Baltimore’s communities, while Democratic leaders including Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries condemned the president’s actions as an abuse of power.
