UK Court Jails Man Six Years for Sexual Assault on Train

A British court has sentenced 27-year-old Daniel Odubanjo to six years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman and a teenage girl on a train in Essex, according to the British Transport Police (BTP). The police said the offences occurred on November 29, 2024, aboard a train travelling from Shenfield to Chelmsford, adding that Odubanjo was arrested after officers intercepted the service at Hatfield Peverel station following reports from victims and passengers.

BTP said Odubanjo was found guilty at Chelmsford Crown Court of one count of false imprisonment and two counts of sexual assault, and was also issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order restricting his conduct on public transport. Detective Sergeant Hayley Whyte said the attacks left the victims traumatised but praised their courage and the intervention of bystanders, noting that their actions ensured Odubanjo was brought to justice and received a custodial sentence.
