The United States has approved a possible sale of a surface-to-air missile system worth over 4.6 billion dollars to the Egyptian government.
The Pentagon announced that the proposed deal includes the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System, known as NASAMS, along with Sentinel radar systems, hundreds of missiles, and guidance units.
NASAMS, co-developed by the US and Norway, is designed to detect and destroy enemy aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles.
The United States State Department revealed that the deal is aimed at boosting the security of Egypt, the agency described it as a key non-NATO ally and a stabilizing force in the Middle East.
As part of the agreement, about 26 US government personnel and 34 contractors will be deployed to Egypt for extended training, engineering, and logistics support.
