US Supreme Court Halts Trump’s Attempt to Fire Fed Governor Lisa Cook
The U.S. Supreme Court yesterday blocked President Donald Trump from immediately removing Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, delaying the case until oral arguments are heard in January 2026.
The decision ensures Cook will remain in her position on the Fed’s seven-member board for now, amid growing concerns over the central bank’s independence.
President Trump had sought to fire Cook over the summer, alleging she falsified mortgage-related documents.
The move came as he continued to criticize the Fed’s high interest rate policy, which he blames for slowing economic growth.
Cook has filed a lawsuit challenging her attempted dismissal, claiming she was denied due process.
The Fed declined to comment beyond reiterating it would follow the court’s final decision.
