Organised Labour, led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), yesterday presented 20 demands to the Federal Government during the 2025 May Day celebration at Eagle Square, Abuja.
Key among the demands were salary adjustments, tax reliefs, a reversal of the emergency declaration in Rivers State, and the extension of the 65-year retirement age to all public servants.
The labour leaders, Joe Ajaero and Festus Osifo, called for economic justice, rejection of new tax bills, a rollback of electricity sector privatisation, and the establishment of a national minimum pension tied to inflation.
They also demanded better protection for workers, an end to insecurity, and more inclusion in policy-making, especially on tax matters affecting Nigerian workers.
President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Labour, Maigari Dingyadi, responded by pledging improved labour protections, fair treatment, and stronger collaboration with unions.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to job security, democratic reforms, and Nigeria’s alignment with international labour standards.
