Maduka Okoye has been recalled to the Super Eagles squad for the first time in six months ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming fixtures at the 2025 Unity Cup in London and a historic friendly against Russia in Moscow.
The goalkeeper had been sidelined due to a wrist injury and controversy over alleged betting irregularities but has since returned to regular action for Udinese.
Head coach Eric Chelle included Okoye in a 25-man squad, signalling renewed competition for the No. 1 shirt alongside Stanley Nwabali and Amas Obasogie.
The Unity Cup squad features a mix of seasoned internationals and local league standouts, including Remo Stars captain Junior Nduka and NPFL forwards Sikiru Alimi and Adamu Abubakar.
Nigeria will face Ghana in the semi-final on May 28, with the tournament final set for May 31.
For the June 6 friendly against Russia, Chelle has named a separate 21-man squad, bringing back William Troost-Ekong and Victor Boniface, as the Super Eagles prepare for the next World Cup qualification window.
