DR Congo Declares New Ebola Outbreak with 15 Fatalities

Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo have confirmed a new Ebola outbreak in Kasai Province, with 28 suspected cases and 15 deaths, including several health workers. A statement by the World Health Organisation yesterday, the Ministry of Health said the outbreak was detected after patients began showing symptoms consistent with Ebola, prompting immediate testing and surveillance. The World Health Organization (WHO) noted that the region has battled multiple outbreaks in the past, and lessons from those experiences would guide the current response.

WHO’s regional director explained that medical teams are already on the ground, deploying surveillance systems, treatment supplies, and Ervebo vaccines to affected areas. The global health body stressed that the situation remains a serious concern but expressed confidence that Congo’s long-standing expertise in managing Ebola outbreaks, combined with international support, would help contain the virus and protect vulnerable communities.
