FG Warns Tertiary Institutions Against Unapproved Satellite Campuses

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has warned that any Federal University, Polytechnic, or College of Education that establishes a satellite campus without prior approval through their respective regulatory agencies the National Universities Commission, the National Board for Technical Education, and the National Commission for Colleges of Education will face strict sanctions.

In a memo dated May 30, 2025, and addressed to the heads of the regulatory bodies, Dr. Alausa raised concerns over the increasing number of unregulated satellite campuses, saying many of them lack adequate academic, strategic, and infrastructural support.

He said the trend undermines the quality and sustainability of Nigeria’s tertiary education system, as some Vice Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts are diverting limited resources from existing campuses to poorly equipped new ones.

The minister directed the agencies to notify all federal tertiary institutions that no satellite campus should be established without his approval, warning that non-compliance will attract disciplinary action.
