The Federal Road Safety Corps has launched a nationwide special patrol operation ahead of the Eid el-Kabir celebrations scheduled for Friday, deploying over 36,000 personnel including regular and special marshals from June 5 to 11, 2025, to ensure road safety and smooth traffic flow.
According to Corps Spokesman Olusegun Ogungbemide, the operation will be supported by 750 patrol vehicles, 120 ambulances, 25 tow trucks, and over 200 motorbikes, with the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, stating that the initiative is aimed at facilitating free vehicular movement, enabling swift emergency responses, and clearing obstructions promptly.
He directed commanding officers to ensure full coverage of 52 key highway corridors across the country and emphasized targeting violations such as speeding, wrongful overtaking, phone use while driving, expired tyres, and lack of spare tyres.
The FRSC has equipped operatives with radar guns and breathalysers and activated emergency response teams, while collaborating with the military, police, civil defence, DSS, and ambulance providers; mobile courts will also sit across the country to ensure speedy trial of offenders.
Road users are urged to obey traffic rules and report incidents via FRSC’s toll-free line 122.
