Namibia Swears in First Female President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah

Namibia has made history as Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was sworn in today as the country’s first female president, extending the SWAPO party’s 35-year rule.

The 72-year-old, popularly known as ”NNN”, secured 58% of the votes in November’s elections, overcoming delays and opposition challenges.

With 44% youth unemployment, she has pledged to create 500,000 jobs in key sectors like agriculture, fishing, and sports, while calling for national unity after a divisive campaign.

A veteran of Namibia’s liberation struggle, Nandi-Ndaitwah takes office in a resource-rich country known for uranium, diamonds, and oil deposits.

However, she has expressed skepticism about renewable energy despite Namibia’s vast solar and wind potential.

A staunch conservative, she maintains strict stances against abortion and gay marriage, both of which remain illegal.

As she begins her tenure, expectations are high for her leadership in *boosting the economy and addressing political divisions.
