Three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek will face world number one Aryna Sabalenka in a highly anticipated French Open semi-final after both players secured straight-sets quarter-final wins on Tuesday.
Swiatek defeated Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina 6-1, 7-5 to earn her 26th consecutive Roland Garros victory, while Sabalenka overcame Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen 7-6 (7/3), 6-3.
Swiatek, aiming to become the first woman since 1923 to win four straight titles in Paris, admitted the windy conditions were tough but expressed confidence ahead of the semi-final clash, which will mark her 13th meeting with Sabalenka, whom she leads 8-4.
On the men’s side, reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz dominated American Tommy Paul 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 in just 94 minutes to set up a semi-final against Lorenzo Musetti.
Alcaraz, who hit 40 winners and just 22 unforced errors, described the performance as one where everything went in.
Musetti earlier defeated Frances Tiafoe in four sets to reach his second Grand Slam semi-final.
The upcoming match will be the third clay-court meeting this season between Alcaraz and Musetti, with Alcaraz winning their previous two encounters.
