FG Approves ₦2 Billion for Flood Victims in Niger State, Shettima Visits Affected Communities

The Federal Government has approved ₦2 billion for the reconstruction of homes destroyed by recent floods in Mokwa, Niger State, following the deaths of over 160 people and the loss of more than 100 houses.

 Vice President Kashim Shettima, who announced the intervention during a condolence visit, said President Bola Tinubu was deeply saddened by the tragedy and had directed immediate support to ease the suffering of residents.

Shettima added that president Tinubu ordered the Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Abdullahi Sabi, to temporarily relocate to Mokwa to oversee relief efforts and infrastructure rebuilding.

Niger State Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba described the disaster as a national catastrophe, calling for urgent federal support, particularly to repair four collapsed bridges and assist women affected by the flood.

 Traditional ruler Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, thanked the government for its swift response and appealed for speedy completion of key infrastructure projects in the area.
