NBC Urges Broadcast Operators to Combat Illegal Stations Amidst Industry Integrity Concerns

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has called for the cooperation of broadcast operators in identifying and reporting illegal stations operating within their jurisdiction in order to ensure Integrity of the industry.

Director general of the commission Barrister Charles Ebuebu in his welcome address at the Stakeholders Engagement held in Abuja yesterday, emphasized the need for operators to ensure good quality content.
The Stakeholders Engagement, which was the first to be organized by the National Broadcasting Commission since the Director General assumed office six months ago, was to bring together the Chief Executives and General Managers of broadcasting station or their representatives who could take this decision on their behalf.
Mr. Ebuebu described the engagement as an opportunity to engage operators meaningfully and bring the commission and broadcast stations closer. He stated also that the commission was committed to promoting professionalism in the broadcast industry while calling on the operators to participate in international events to stay abreast of global trends.

In his closing speech, the Director General, Barrister Ebuebu announced that the Stakeholders’ Engagement would be held frequently while efforts would be made to improve the relationship between the commission and station owners. He also hinted on the plan to review the broadcast code.
The Stakeholders’ Engagement was well attended by broadcast operators from across the country and key officials of the National Broadcasting Commission including the Secretary to the Commission Mrs. Fransisca Aiyetan and the Acting Deputy DG, Engineering Engr. Ruth Caleb who presented a paper titled Spectrum Concerns.
Wellradio 89.3 FM was represented at the meeting in Abuja by its Consultant and Acting General Manager, Chief Yomi Davies and Head, Business Development and Marketing, Mr. Tobi Owoaje.
